Local Food Infrastructure Fund – Funding Is Now Open!

Food Banks Canada is excited to inform you that the first round of funding for the Local Food Infrastructure Fund from the federal government is now open.

As announced in the spring, the federal government has committed to spending $50 million over the next five years to support local food organizations such as food banks to improve their infrastructure to better serve their communities.

The first round of funding is now open for applications and will remain open until November 1, 2019. This round of funding is limited to a maximum of $25,000 per project, per organization, and is aimed towards local organizations, like food banks, to help improve their infrastructure and purchase equipment (fridges, refrigerated trucks, community kitchens/gardens, etc.) that is directly related to the accessibility of healthy, nutritious and ideally, local foods within their community.

Tips for Applying
  • Applications will be reviewed as they are submitted, so applying early is advised
  • Food Banks Canada will support any food banks within the network that wish to apply.
  • If you have any questions regarding this fund, please don’t hesitate to contact Phil Ozga (phil@foodbankscanada.ca) directly.
A second round of funding aimed at larger-scale projects will be announced in 2020 and we will provide the network with details on that round of funding once they become available.
