A Fresh Approach to Giving

Did you know that 40% of food shared by food banks across Canada is fresh? Fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein make it into the hands of families and individuals who need it each day through local food banks.

At Food Banks Canada one of our goals is to increase the amount of fresh food that is distributed to food banks and into the hands of our neighbours who need it most. To make this goal a reality we work with caring partners on the national level- from food producers, farmers and corporate partners- to help share large-scale donations, create granting programs for community gardens, advocate for policy changes and more.

On top of the work being done each day, we can’t thank our partners enough who also seize opportunities to make a greater impact. Partners like PepsiCo Canada. To celebrate PepsiCo’s 50th anniversary they along with the PepsiCo Foundation made a donation of $130,000 to Food Banks Canada for the purchase of fresh food for food banks from coast to coast.

Employees from the corporate office also volunteered their time to pack 7,500 lbs of the purchased vegetables that were being delivered to local food banks. This packing day was just in time for Thanksgiving and provided families with delicious root vegetables to be shared and enjoyed around the table.

Thanks to PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation, tens of thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables will make their way into the homes of those who need it most. We greatly thank PepsiCo for this donation and its employees for helping more Canadians have access to fresh food this fall.

Helping others is always a fantastic way to make an important milestone even more meaningful. Hopefully stories like this will inspire others to do the same as we work to relieve hunger today and prevent it tomorrow.
