Celebrating Mothers

From the day a woman becomes a mother, her children look to her as a source of protection and well-being. Many mothers feel the overwhelming need to provide for their children, so, imagine the heartbreak when, due to life circumstances, a mother is not able to consistently put food on the table.

This is the reality for many mothers in Canada. It has been said that being a parent is one of the hardest jobs a person will ever have, even under the best of circumstances. Add being a single, working parent with two jobs or being unemployed, under-employed or on some form of social assistance to the mix and the task of being a parent can get exponentially more difficult.

To support mothers around the country who find themselves struggling to put food on the table, consider giving to your local food bank. Some items that are always needed are diapers, infant/toddler hygiene products and baby food. A quick call to your local food bank can confirm what items are most urgently needed at this time.

This Mother’s Day think about the sacrifices your mother may have made for you. And think about the thousands of mothers around the country who may turn to food banks to provide much needed food for their families. To those mothers and all mothers who provide a loving environment for their children, we celebrate and salute you.
