Making Every Plate Full
While many Canadians look forward to backyard barbeque season, for nearly one million of us, summer is a far less bountiful time.

Food Banks Canada and our network aim to provide over 26 million meals to 918,724 Canadians during the summer months. Yet donations to food banks dip to their lowest during this time, making this the most challenging season of all.

In response to this need, Food Banks Canada recently launched our first annual #EveryPlateFull — a national food and fundraising campaign aimed at keeping food banks stocked through the summer months.

The campaign ran Saturday, May 2 to Friday, May 8, 2015, in 93 Affiliate food banks and 10 Provincial Associations coast-to-coast. It included social media and national media campaigns, as well as a food and fundraising component.

Each community made the campaign their own: by organizing hikes, filling rafts, raising awareness and, of course, collecting food.

Support for Every Plate Full was overwhelmingly positive. To date, over 388,000 meals have been donated with many of our food banks still reporting in on their success and some campaigns continuing through until the end of May. Every $1 donated during the campaign provided three meals for Canadian food banks.

“This is the largest food, funds, and awareness raising campaign we’ve organized,” says Tania Little, Director, Development and Partnerships, Food Banks Canada. “It demonstrates the power of working together, because when we rally around the same message and bring together our communities for a great cause, we can fill the empty plates across Canada.”

We are looking forward to growing the corporate sponsorship of this campaign in 2016, and are appreciative of some early initiatives including Great-West Life, Canada Life and London Life employee food drives. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved please send an email to [email protected] and one of our team members will get back to you. Next year’s campaign will be run April 30 – May 6, 2016.
