148 reasons to celebrate the contributions of caring Canadians!
While we will shorten the list to the top 5 in the interest of space, there are definitely more than 148 great reasons why Canadians donate their time, money and energy to support food banks. Quite simply food banks are doing essential work in their communities.

Because of the generosity of Canadians, Food Banks Canada helps more than 550 food banks across the country with essential food, consumer products, and funds to assist the more than 844,000 people who turn to them each month.

5 great reasons why Canadians support food banks:
  1. Many food banks go beyond food, offering social programs, community gardens and kitchens and even health services for those who are most vulnerable.
  2. All food banks rely on volunteers! Did you know that over 40% of all food banks are run entirely by volunteers?
  3. Food banks stretch every dollar donated to ensure your investment goes a long way to helping solve hunger today
  4. Long-term solutions are needed and the food bank network engages government to help influence public policy as a foundation for reducing the need for food banks.
  5. Because Canadians care about each other
As you celebrate Canada Day this year, please take a moment and think about these reasons and how you
can help make Canada better in the year ahead for those less fortunate.

From all of us at Food Banks Canada we wish you a happy Canada Day and hope that you find one new way to help  your local food bank this year so we are able to include it on next year’s list when Canada turns 149!
