More Facts

Rural Support Program

Program goals: Due to their location, food banks situated outside of urban centres face unique challenges related to accessing food and raising funds as well as learning from best practices. Food Banks Canada identified the need to support rural food banks, and does so through the Rural Support Program.

Support: The primary channel of support through this program is the Rural Transportation Grant. This longstanding granting program is supported by founding sponsor Syngenta as well Farm Credit Canada. It offers financial reimbursements to food banks to help offset the cost they assume in the transportation of food and consumer products.

In the future, the program will look to develop initiatives that will provide further direct support for rural food banks across Canada.
